Atlas Copco 48,000 rpm Compressor Thrust Bearing Upgrade
The upgrade service offered by K C Engineering has just completed a new thrust bearing arrangement for the stage 3 and stage 4 bearings of an Atlas Copco compressor. The client requested an upgrade of the fixed thrust face to a tilting pad arrangement on one end of each of the stage 3 and stage 4 assemblies. In addition, the overall length of one the bearings was increased.

The stage 4 pinion rotates at 48,000 rpm. The re-design process started with a full reverse engineer of the standard OEM parts. The original thrust plates were removed and the new tilting pad design created to match the packaging of the base units and bearing assembly. New manufacture drawings approved with the customer and the new parts manufactured at KC Engineering to complete the updgrade process.
