Delivery of New Thrust Bearings for Rugeley Power 500MW Steam Turbines

Following a design review and upgrade to the thrust bearings at Rugeley Power station carried out by K C Engineering, the first set of the new thrust bearings have been delivered.

The design upgrade features include:

  • optimised number of thrust pads (14 verus the original 18 pads)
  • spherical hardened pivots
  • copper chrome alloy backing material
  • optimised pivot offset

These design changes ensure maximum load carrying capacity is achieved using the same working volume as the orginal design. The bearing has been made to extremely fine tolerances to ensure overall flatness and has 4 thermocouples installed.
