Centrifual Casting Process
K C Engineering operates two horizontal casting
machines, 1,800mm and 700mm in diameter. The maximum design load
for our centrifugal casting machines is 2,000 Kgs and we hold
up to 4,000 Kgs of whitemetal alloy.
To ensure perfect bonding of whitemetal to the backing material
we only use a submerged tinning process in a 8,000 Kg pure tin
bath, 2.5m x 1.5m, serviced by two 5 tonne overhead cranes. Provided
it is feasible we will always centrifugally cast any manufactured
or repaired bearing in order to achieve a higher quality product,
for several reasons:
- Dirt, oxide and gas are moved to the inside
of the casting, where they are removed on machining
- Shrinkage porosity is eliminated by centrifugal
force
- Metallographic structure is improved by directional
solidification
- Shorter cooling times reduce crystal
growth during solidification
